Eric Neumann is an American stand-up comedian based in New York City. He made his late-night television debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in February 2022,[1] and is known for a recurring live routine in which he telephones his mother from the stage during performances, which formed the basis of the 2026 comedy special and documentary Call Your Mom.[2][3]

Neumann is a native of Queens, New York City.[2] He graduated from Hunter College in 2010, where he studied cinema in the college's Film and Media department and began performing comedy.[4]

Neumann has said that he began performing stand-up around 2009.[5] By 2015 he was performing in New York clubs and preparing his first headlining show at Carolines on Broadway,[6] where he later became a regular headliner.[7] He was a semi-finalist in the New York Comedy Festival's stand-up competition in both 2016 and 2017.[5]

Stand-up and television

Neumann performs regularly at comedy clubs in New York City and tours nationally as a headliner.[2] He is a regular performer at the Comedy Cellar,[2][8] and also appears at the New York Comedy Club.[9] During the COVID-19 pandemic, Neumann continued performing and began posting material on TikTok, gaining 50,000 followers within months of joining the platform, having previously described himself as a traditional club comic uninterested in social media.[10]

He performed a stand-up set on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on February 22, 2022, on an episode that also featured James Spader, Nathan Chen and Bernice King.[1] Writing in the weekly late-night column in Vulture, Bethy Squires named the appearance the stand-up set of the week, describing it as a national introduction for Neumann.[11] He has also appeared as a panelist on the CBS comedy series Comics Unleashed, on an episode broadcast on June 8, 2026 alongside Cory Kahaney, Zain Sharif and Spank Horton.[12] His other television credits include Comedy Central's This Week at the Comedy Cellar and Netflix's The Iliza Shlesinger Sketch Show.[13]

Albums

Neumann's debut comedy album, Nervous Lover, was released in 2018 on 800 Pound Gorilla Records.[14][15] A second album, Just a Phase, followed in November 2020,[16] and But Enough About Me: A Crowd Work Special was released in April 2022.[17] His special Almost Engaged, filmed at the Comedy Cellar's Village Underground room in New York City, was released in May 2025.[18][19]

Call Your Mom

Neumann's mother, Paula, began telephoning him during performances out of concern about his touring schedule. He started answering the calls on stage and putting her on speakerphone, and the exchanges became a recurring part of his act.[2][20]

Footage of the calls, recorded across multiple tour stops and combined with interview segments featuring Neumann and his mother, was assembled into Call Your Mom, a hybrid stand-up special and documentary.[21] It premiered on The Roku Channel on July 13, 2026.[2][3][22]
