Deshjuana "Desh" Jones Bagley (born 1970) is an American STEM educator and entrepreneur who founded TechPlayzone in Tampa in 2005. Bagley was previously the executive director of the State College of Florida's Advanced Technology Center. Bagley is the Associate Dean of Associate Science Programs.

Early life and education

Deshjuana Karlette Jones was born in Lafayette, Louisiana in 1970,[1] the daughter of Rufus and Mattie Jones.[2] She grew up in Beaumont, Texas[3] where she attended Fehl Elementary School, Vincent Middle School and Marshall Middle School[4] before being transferred to West Brook Senior High School. Jones participated in educational support programs like Head Start.[3] Jones learned to program in Basic in 7th grade[5] and later to program Apple IIe computers at West Brook.[1] Jones graduated from high school in 1988. That same year, she won a small Walmart scholarship.[6]

She attended the University of Texas at Austin where she studied computer-science and worked as a programmer at Motorola.[7] She later earned a bachelor of science in computer science from the University of South Florida.[1][8]

Career

In 2005, Bagley founded TechPlayzone,[1][8][5] a technology edutainment business that runs workshops and camps for children, with an emphasis on teaching through play.[9][10][11] The first program was an after school program at Edison Elementary School.[1] In 2006, TechPlayzone moved to its own space.[1]

From 2013 –2019, Bagley worked as a technology outreach manager for Hillsborough Community College.[12]

In February 2021, Bagley was hired as Director of the Coding Academy, State College of Florida, Manatee–Sarasota.[13] Under her leadership, the academy offered coding bootcamps, cybersecurity training, and workforce development programs.[14]

In 2026, Bagley is the Associate Dean of Associate Science Programs.

Bagley has given a number of talks and presentations, including a TEDx talk in 2015 etitled "The future of robotics".[15] Bagley is also the tournament director of the Suncoast First Lego League in west central region of Florida.[10]

Personal life

Bagley is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She married Daryl Bagley, Sr in 1995.[1] The couple have five adult children.[8][3]
