Depot 25, also known as Kiryat HaMemshala Depot, is a housing and maintenance depot, mainly for vehicles on Jerusalem's Green Line light rail .
Activity
[edit]The depot is located in Kiryat HaMemshala, near Jerusalem's main western entrance, between the Begin highway and Natanel Lorch Street. The depot has room for 25 pairs of trams and will be used by the green line CAF Urbos vehicles.
The depot was built by the Shapir engineering company, which is also one of the owners of Cfir, the operator of the green line. [1]
The building
[edit]Depot 25 is unusual in the fact that it's located in a mixed use building in the middle of the city and not in an industrial building in the outskirts. The Depot is on a parcel of aprox. 23 dunam. The building has 4 underground floors containing parking and maintenance facilities. Above this, in one corner of the parcel, 5 floors of office space meant for the green line operator and includes a training simulator, visitor's center and a supervision and control center. In total, around 70 thousand sq. meters of building.
In the second phase, an additional 75 thousand sq. meters are planned to be built above the depot for government offices and commercial spaces.
