Cross Water is a Swedish–Estonian boatbuilding company that designs modular aluminium boats for defence, security, search and rescue and industrial maritime use. The company operates through two legal entities: XW Production OÜ in Estonia and XW Production AB in Sweden.[1] Its boats are built around a single base hull fitted with a reconfigurable modular deck, allowing one vessel to be adapted to multiple roles.[1][2]

History

[edit]

The Estonian entity, XW Production OÜ, was registered on 27 September 2024.[3] The company was co-founded by Jürgen Visnapuu, who serves as chief executive officer, and Niclas Kling, a naval architect who previously worked at the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration.[1][2] Cross Water is a member of the Estonian Defence Industry Association.[2]

In August 2025, the company unveiled its first model, the XW Modular 750.[2]

Products

[edit]

Cross Water's product line, marketed as "Cross Water Modular", consists of aluminium rigid inflatable boat (RIB) and monohull platforms.[1] The design pairs a single long-life base hull with a reconfigurable deck; standardised mounting interfaces allow the console, seating, working stations and mission equipment to be repositioned or swapped without a structural rebuild.[1] A single boat can be configured for roles including patrol, search and rescue, diving support, harbour work, transport, surveillance, drone deployment and interdiction.[1][2] The company states that the aluminium hull has a service life of more than 25 years.[1]

The XW Modular 750, unveiled in August 2025, is the company's first aluminium RIB.[2]

The company describes its design approach as "manned-first, unmanned-ready", adding autonomous capability incrementally as modules fitted to a crewed platform rather than developing a separate uncrewed surface vehicle.[1][2] Autonomy modules are being developed with the Tallinn University of Technology and a technology partner, MindChip.[2] According to the company, the platform was tested over two years in the Baltic Sea and on Lake Peipus, including evaluation with the Estonian border guard.[1][2]
