Chad D. Reineke is an American architect.[1], educator, author[2][3], and design leader based in Atlanta, Georgia.

Career

He is Chief Operating Officer at Lightroom Studio, LLC[4] and Sr. Architect - Hospitality Practice at NELSON Worldwide[5] He has held architectural leadership roles across residential, hospitality, civic, educational, and mixed-use projects. His work spans architectural practice, design-build education, professional mentorship, youth design outreach, and writing on architectural ethics and professional formation.

His professional work has included projects recognized by AIA Georgia[6] and AIA Atlanta[7] through his firm Lightroom Studio, LLC[8] , including residential and adaptive reuse projects completed through Lightroom and other firms.[9]

Education

Reineke studied architecture at Bowling Green State University and Southern Polytechnic State University, now part of Kennesaw State University. Earlier in his career, he worked as a journeyman carpenter, a background that informed his interest in construction, making, and the relationship between design judgment and material practice.[10]

Writing, Teaching & Practice Knowledge Leadership

Reineke’s work includes architectural writing, teaching, professional mentorship, and public education. He is the author of The Rules of Practice (2026)[2] and The Reflective Architect: Practice and Presence in a Changing Profession[11], forthcoming from Routledge in 2026. His writing has also appeared in Common Edge, where he has addressed architectural practice, professional judgment, ethics, technology, and the future of the profession[3].

From 2018 to 2023, Reineke served as a part-time assistant professor at Kennesaw State University, where he taught courses related to architecture, building technology, design communication, and professional practice[12]. In 2025, he lectured as part of the Venice Architecture Biennale programming associated with Time Space Existence.[13]

AIA & Professional Service

Reineke has been involved in professional service and mentorship through the American Institute of Architects and related architectural education programs. He was selected for the AIA Georgia Christopher Kelley Leadership Development Program Class of 2026[14] and was a candidate for AIA Georgia Young Architect Representative in 2025[15].

His involvement with youth design education includes service with the AIA Atlanta High School Design Competition[16] beginning in 2024, as well as earlier participation in the AIA Toledo High School Design Competition[17] as a student from 2000 to 2002 and later as an advisor for Bowser High School from 2006 to 2009. He has also served as a mentor through the AIA Atlanta Mentorship Program[18].

Reineke’s involvement with emerging professional organizations began while he was a student. From 2004 to 2006, he served as vice president of the American Institute of Architecture Students chapter at Bowling Green State University[19] and helped lead its mentorship program. From 2006 to 2009, he was a member of the AIA Toledo Young Architects Forum[20].

Community & Civic Leadership

Reineke has been active in youth education, conservation, and community service through Scouting America and related outreach initiatives. He has served as committee chair and assistant scoutmaster for Scouting America Troop 129, supporting both the boys’ and girls’ troops. He is also a merit badge counselor for 38 merit badge areas, including architecture, art, and sustainability[21]

Reineke has also served as program director and author for a SPIKE Studio and Scouting America architecture education initiative. The program introduces youth ages 11 to 17 to design thinking, drawing, model-making, civic engagement, and architecture-related career pathways.
