without a source tends to be the sort of thing AI does. Also there isn't sufficient sourcing for a company under WP:NCORP since neither John Lewis nor Harrods are independent here. Big chunks of the draft are fully unsourced for verification, which also needs to be fixed (though many such details do not necessarily need secondary source, the company website would be OK for uncontroversial details). Given the Queen's Award I would expect that it's possible that corporate depth can be found for this article, but it need good quality independent sources, such as newspapers, books, academic journals - this is for notability. However avoid local press (Yorkshire Post and above would be OK). Notability and verification are separate but related sourcing requirements, and both will need to be addressed here. Carrs Silver (also known as Carrs of Sheffield) is a British manufacturer of sterling silver and silver-plated products based in Sheffield, England. Founded in 1977 by Ron Carr, the company designs and manufactures silverware including cutlery, photograph frames, tableware, giftware and bespoke commissions. The business remains family-owned and continues to manufacture products in Sheffield, a city renowned for its historic cutlery and silversmithing industries.
History
[edit]The origins of Carrs Silver date back to 1976 when production engineer Ron Carr left his position in Sheffield to establish a small business producing handmade silver jewellery from his garage. In 1977 the company was incorporated as Carrs of Sheffield Limited, initially manufacturing silver jewellery and commemorative items.
In 1979 the company introduced its first range of sterling silver photograph frames, which quickly became one of its signature product lines. During the 1980s Carrs expanded both its manufacturing capacity and international distribution, exporting its products following its first appearance at Spring Fair International in Birmingham.
By the late 1980s the company employed more than 100 people across several Sheffield workshops. In 1990 Carrs purchased land to construct its own purpose-built manufacturing facility, allowing greater control over the production of raw silver components. The new headquarters and manufacturing complex opened in 1992.
In 1991 Carrs received the Queen's Award for Export Achievement in recognition of its international trade. During the 1990s the company broadened its product portfolio to include sterling silver cutlery, candlesticks, clocks, children's gifts, dressing table accessories and leather goods. It also opened concessions within Harrods and Selfridges department stores in London and expanded distribution into more than 50 countries.
The company marked the year 2000 Millennium celebrations with a commemorative collection featuring the Millennium Hallmark. In 2002 Carrs received the Brand of the Year Award at the UK Jewellery Awards and produced a limited-edition set of 18-carat gold cutlery to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee.
In 2009 Carrs acquired the Osborne Group of companies, a Sheffield cutlery manufacturer whose archive included patterns dating back approximately 300 years. The acquisition significantly expanded the company's manufacturing capabilities and heritage cutlery collection.
Leadership of the company later passed to Ron Carr's sons—Andrew, Martin and Richard Carr—who continue to oversee the family business. Carrs launched its e-commerce website in 2018 and, from 2021, began marking its sterling silver products with the Convention Common Control Mark (CCM), facilitating trade with countries participating in the Hallmarking Convention.
