Brett Humphrey is Commissioner for Consumer and Business Services in South Australia. His portfolio covers the roles of Commissioner for Pricing, Commissioner of Liquor and Gambling and the Commissioner for Consumer Affairs. He commenced in this role January 2025. Police career Humphrey started a career in the South Australian Police around 2001. Through his career, he worked in areas across the state of South Australia including Kangaroo Island, Loxton, Sturt, Aldinga, Victor Harbor and Hindley Street. Humphrey was promoted to Inspector in 2017 and served as the Operations Inspector for the Port Lincoln and Ceduna areas. He also held senior roles in HR, Prosecution and Licence Enforcement. He led the successful implementation of Body Worn Video to front line SAPOL officers delivering a practical and workable solution. His career with SA Police was strongly focussed on operational policing and he was strongly respected across stakeholders for a practical and common sense approach to matters. CBS Humphrey was appointed as Commissioner for Consumer and Business Services in December 2024 and commenced in January 2025. He had significant dealings with CBS whilst with SAPOL, supporting CBS with licensing matters in particularly when CBS took on the regulatory responsibility for Tobacco on 1 July 2024. As CBS commissioner he is responsible for about 40 pieces of legislation covering areas like lotteries, gambling, tobacco, building, trades, real estate agents, second hand car sales, fair trading, consumer rights, incorporated associations, liquor, tattoos, charities and also births deaths and marriages.
