Basirhat Town High School is a secondary school located in Basirhat, North 24 Parganas district, West Bengal, India. Established in 1947, it is one of the oldest and most recognised educational institutions in the district.

History

The school was founded in 1947, the year of India's independence, because of the growing educational needs of the Basirhat area. Initially, it functioned as a secondary school and was later upgraded to the higher secondary level (up to Class XII). The school is affiliated to the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) for the Madhyamik examination and to the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) for the Higher Secondary examination. The school has been administered by the Department of Education, Government of West Bengal since its inception, and is one of the premier publicly administered educational institutions in North 24 Parganas district.

The school is situated in an urban setting within Ward No. 11 of Basirhat Municipality. The building is a government-constructed structure with a pucca boundary wall. The campus includes 22 classrooms.

Academics

Basirhat Town High School teaches from Class V to Class XII. The medium of instruction is Bengali. There is Madhyamik (secondary) examination under WBBSE and the Higher Secondary examination under WBCHSE. The school year runs from January to December, with approximately 244 instructional days at the upper primary level.
