Bara Badhu(Odia: ବର ବଧୂ ) is a 2026 Indian Odia-language drama film directed by Beeswaranjan Pradhan and produced by Chandra Mani. The film was released theatrically on 13 February 2026. It stars Sailendra Samantaray and Sivani Sangita in lead roles, alongside Subhasis Sharma, Jayshree Sarangi, Suryamayee Mohapatra, and Hara Rath.[2][3][4][5][6]

Plot

[edit]

The film follows Biju and Suman, two educated but unemployed young people from neighboring villages. Both struggle to find stable jobs and escape poverty.

Biju learns that an Anganwadi teacher position is available only for a married woman. To take advantage of this opportunity, he and Suman agree to a fake marriage. What begins as a practical arrangement gradually develops into genuine affection between them.

However, their plan becomes entangled in village politics, corruption, and bureaucratic hurdles. The fake marriage creates misunderstandings, and Biju is torn between his growing love for Suman and his loyalty to his friend Sukla. Their dreams of an easy solution fall apart as they face social pressure and political manipulation.

In the end, Biju accepts that success doesn't have to come through a government job. He discovers his talent for cooking, starts a small tiffin business, and earns respect through honest work. Suman also succeeds on her own by securing a railway job. They meet again, and Suman hints that if Biju truly wants to marry her, he should come to her home and ask her family properly. The film ends on a hopeful note, emphasizing self-reliance, dignity, love, and personal growth rather than a dramatic fairy-tale ending.[7]
