Avengers: Armageddon is a American comic book crossover storyline published by Marvel Comics in June 2026, written by Chip Zdarsky. According to him, the event promises to change the face of the Avengers in a way not seen since Avengers Disassembled (2004–2005).

Publication history

Avengers: Armageddon is a crossover event published on June 3, 2026 by Marvel Comics, written by Chip Zdarsky, with art by Frank Alpizar and Delio Diaz, and colors by Frank Martin. The event features elements and concepts from the first two arcs of the 2025 ongoing Captain America comic series, showing to change the face of the Avengers in a way not seen since Avengers Disassembled (2004–2005).

Zdarsky also writes the limited series Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon, with art by Luca Maresca, and colors by Jesus Aburtov, and debuted on February 18, 2026.

Another tie-in series is Reborn: Ultimate Impact by Chris Condon and Stefano Caselli. The series features the Origin Boxes from the Ultimate Universe (2023–2026), which inadvertently end up in the possession of civilians.

Premise

After the events of "One World Under Doom", General Thaddeus Ross claims the leadership of Latveria for himself, forcing the Avengers to prevent a massive global conflict.

Plot

Lead-up

David Colton was a soldier who suffered with asthma since childhood, but was always felt inspired to the actions of Steve Rogers/ Captain America in World War II. Years later, when he joined a rescue mission in Latveria during a coup, Colton (under the mantle of Captain America) discovers that his team of mercenaries sent by General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross was hired to kill the hostages in order to cover up Ross' businesses with Victor von Doom / Doctor Doom. Feeling disgusted by their actions, Colton decided to kill the mercenaries in revenge, causing Rogers to fight against him, leading to Colton's defeat before they both were taken by the rescue team. While Colton was being hospitalized, Rogers decides to no longer serve General Ross and accepts the offer of joining the Avengers.

In the present, Doom dies and leaves Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic his will and testament hidden in his mask, which leaves Latveria and his other possessions in the hands of whoever can take care of it. In response, many factions are competing for the country's control, including General Ross / Red Hulk and the federal government as they race through the Dungeons of Doom to claim the items within.

In present day, Nick Fury Jr. and a re-established S.H.I.E.L.D. sends Rogers and a new team of agents to Latveria to retrieve a mysterious weapon hidden by Doom. In Latveria, there is civil war between True Latveria, a resistance led by Marius Wolf / Salvation, and the Latverian Liberators, led by Alina von Doom. Captain America encounters a young clone of Doctor Doom. When the clone goes on the run, he encounters Red Hulk, who mistakes him for the real Doom. Sam Wilson joins the battle and helps to evacuate the clone.

Main plot

As Thunderbolt Ross has a gamma charger placed in their remote base with extra guards when talking to Captain Doakes, he wanders through Democracy, New America (formerly Doomstadt, Latveria) as he has the New America flag raised. Meanwhile, Bucky Barnes is by the bedside of a comatose Captain America before he is told to leave. 30 miles north of Aniana, Symkaria, Red Hulk and his Hulk Army attack a base. In New Orleans, Tony Stark meets with Rogue, who refuses to join in the conflict. Wolverine joins them and mentions that Cyclops' team is on standby. At The Pentagon, David Colton fights his way past the security guards. When he reaches the Super Soldier Program inside, the Avengers show up as Colton states that he is shutting down the Super Soldier Programs. After a skirmish with Sam Wilson and Captain America, Colton stands down when Wolverine persuades him to help them. With everyone going after Red Hulk, Iron Man leads them into battle.

Red Hulk and his Hulk Army are attacking Symkaria when the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and their allies arrive and demand that they stop. At the United Nations headquarters, Secretary-General Renati Rinari meets with the Winter Guard. As the Avengers and their allies fight the Hulk Army, Colton lunges towards Red Hulk and manages to incapacitate him, but is stopped from killing him. The Winter Guard takes Ross's body and places him in stasis. Iron Man finds a device that Ross has been using to learn about the future.

Nuclear missiles have gone missing following an attack on Minot Air Force Base. Thunderbolt Ross is placed in the custody of the Winter Guard and is told by Minister Maxim Milyukov that he is no longer a general and is no longer welcomed in the United States. Colton arrives at a cottage, where he finds Bucky Barnes and Wolverine waiting for him to return from tossing nuclear weapons into the Sun. The two try to reason with Colton, which ends with Colton flying Wolverine into Earth's atmosphere. Black Panther confronts Nick Fury Jr. over what was done to members of the Hulk Army. Captain Marvel is told by Iron Man that Colton has taken the What If Machine and that Barnes has gone rogue.

David Colton has a hallucination of his mother as he and Bucky Barnes encounter Iron Man, Captain Marvel, and Vision at Intrepid Base, New Mexico. When Russian missiles manifest near North America, the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men work to intercept them with help from Namor. In the Plesetsky District of Russia, Colton and Barnes are attacked by the Winter Guard and Red Hulk. Invisible Woman, learning that the missiles are adapted to deal with superpowers, has the Fantasticar evacuated so that she can safely crash the missile into it. As Colton joins the fight, Bucky informs him that the Winter Guard fessed up about turning Red Hulk into a bomb. Colton finds himself unable to move Red Hulk as he unleashes an explosion that takes out Bucky, Captain Marvel, and a nearby town. Colton has another hallucination of his mother, who tells him to say "Kimota". Complying, Colton is transformed into Miracleman.
