Andrew Searles is a Canadian stand-up comedian and actor from Montreal, Quebec. He began performing in Montreal in 2002, and has performed across Canada and in the United States.
Searles’ comedy touches on him growing up in a Caribbean household while living in Canada, multiculturalism, his outlook on real world problems, and his personal experiences and outlooks on society. Searles has appeared in CBS’s Ghosts and Nick Shorts Showcase on Nickelodeon.
Early life
[edit]Searles was born in 1984 to Caribbean parents in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. His father in immigrant from Barbados and his mother, an immigrant from Jamaica. He attended John Abbott College where he graduated from Business Administration and Management program, before attending the prestigious John Molson School of Business, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce with a Major in Marketing in 2011.[1]

Searles began his comedy career in high school in 2000 where, inspired by the show MadTV, would do celebrity impressions in his drama class for his classmates. Doing celebrity impressions such as Bill Cosby, Elmo, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Keanu Reeves, Ernie & Bert, Jerry Seinfeld and many more. It wasn’t until 2002 when Searles’ friend and classmate dared him to take his impressions to the comedy stage at John Abbott College,[2] where both would be attending later that fall.
In the years since, Searles has regularly performed at The Comedy Nest, and ComedyWorks Montreal, as well as touring across Canada, regularly performing at the Absolute Comedy Ottawa, Absolute Comedy Toronto, Absolute Comedy Kingston, The Laugh Shop Calgary, The Laugh Shop Edmonton, The Comic Strip, LaughLines, The Comedy Mix, and the Rusty Nail Comedy Club.
He has also appeared at the Calgary Folk Festival in 2014, Ottawa’s Cracking up the Capital in 2015, the 7th Annual Natal Day Comedy Gala in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 2016, the Palm Springs Comedy Festival in 2018, and the Burbank Comedy Festival in 2019, where he was also featured in the Best of the Fest showcase. Searles has also been a Top 10 finalist in the KLIQ Comedy Competition in Los Angeles, and a Top 10 Finalist in the Russell Peters XM “Best Funny Five”.[3]
Searles made his comedy TV debut on Canada’s iChannel “No Kidding” which debuted in 2013.[4]
C’est Moi! C’est Chocolat!
[edit]In 2013, feeling opportunities to headline Montreal comedy clubs would not present themselves, Searles took the initiative and debuted his first headlining show “C’est Moi! C’est Chocolat!”[5][6] at Theatre St.Catherine in Montreal, Quebec. With five sold-out shows over the course of a weekend, and with over 400 tickets sold, it was the highest grossing weekend in the theatres history. Searles touched on topics such as growing up in Canada, having Caribbean parents, sex, and the dating culture.
In 2015, the ComedyWorks Montreal, undergoing new management, Searles was asked to bring his second headlining show, “C’est Moi! C’est Papa Chocolat!”[1][7][8] In 2016, frustrated with the lack of opportunity presenting itself to Searles to grow as a comedian and actor,[9][10] he departed for Los Angeles, with this finale show in Montreal being “C’est Moi! C’est Finale Chocolat!”.
In 2022, Searles returned to Montreal with his new show “LA Chocolat!”, debuting it at Café Cleopatra in downtown Montreal.[11]
Underground Comedy Railroad
[edit]In 2012, Searles and fellow Montreal comedian, Rodney Ramsey, realized that Black Canadian voices were rarely seen or heard in Canadian Comedy. So they debuted the “Underground Comedy Railroad”,[12] a ground breaking all-black comedy tour, designed for Black Canadian comedians to share their unique thoughts and humor throughout Canada[13][14]. The tour happens every February during Black History Month, with shows in multiple cities across Canada[15][16], featuring a wide array of Black Comedians such as Daniel Woodrow, Keesha Brownie, Patrick Haye, Eddy King, Sterling Scott, Kenny Robinson, and more.

Searles’ stand-up performance features observational comedy, often talking about the differences of growing up in Caribbean household while living in Canada, and being a Black Canadian living in America. Searles’ humor touches his own life experiences such as dating, his takes on cultural and political topics, and on the multiculturalism he has been exposed to while growing up in Montreal.
Comedy albums
[edit]Searles’ has released two comedy albums “Papa Chocolat!”, which was recorded at this “C’est Moi! C’est Finale!” show in 2016, and “Worth It!”, which was recorded at this “LA Chocolat!” show in 2022.
Both albums are distributed by 800 Pound Gorilla.[17]
Acting
[edit]Searles' acting debut was in the 2004 Kidnapper Films "Sharkboy" about a half-man, half-shark, playing the role of SunDown.[18] Since then, Searles has appeared in The Carducci Talent Show, Big Break, Fatal Vows, Remove,[19] and CBS's Ghosts. Searles also voiced the malevolent computer M.A.L. in the webseries, Geeks Underground, which was loosely based on The Big Bang Theory,[20] and a caretaker in the comedic horror film Cereal Killer.[21] He has also appeared in commercials for Little Caesars, McDonald's, Mugsy Jeans, King Kylie (Kylie Cosmetics), and Great Wolf Lodge.[citation needed]
