Alfred Fitzi is a Swiss-Australian equestrian rider, trainer and coach specialising in dressage and show jumping. He has been involved in equestrian sport since the 1970s and later established Sagamore Horses, an equestrian training and breeding operation in Western Australia.[1]
Equestrian career
[edit]Fitzi began his equestrian career in 1976 and has competed in both dressage and show jumping.[1] He has been described as an international dressage and show jumping coach and has subsequently worked extensively in horse training and rider development in Western Australia.[1]
Fitzi has also been involved in the breeding and development of warmblood horses in Australia. The Australian Continental Equestrian Group mare studbook records him as the breeder of the mare Sagamore Frederica, foaled in October 1991.[2]
In Western Australia, Fitzi has continued to compete in dressage as well as train horses and riders. Swan River Dressage competition records list him as a rider of horses including Franky Boy and Florix.[3]
Sagamore Horses
[edit]Fitzi is associated with Sagamore Horses and Sagamore Warmblood Stud in Western Australia. Australian Business Register records show Sagamore Horses and Sagamore Warmblood Stud as trading names of a partnership involving Fitzi from February 2005.[4]
Through Sagamore Horses, Fitzi has worked as a riding instructor and trainer in dressage and show jumping.[1] He has also ridden and presented horses for other Australian equestrian operations, including Dynamik Stallions.[5]
Coaching
[edit]Fitzi has coached riders across dressage and show jumping in Western Australia. In 2019, he was nominated for the Pony Club WA Coach of the Year award.[6]
Fitzi has also been involved in the development of inclusive equestrian sport. He has coached Australian Virtus equestrian competitor Luke Purtill following Purtill's relocation from the Northern Territory to Western Australia. Equestrian Life reported that Purtill trained under Fitzi and Australian Paralympic equestrian Sharon Jarvis, and that Purtill rode Fitzi's horse Orange Hill Bordeau as part of his training.[7]
Purtill's training with Fitzi at Sagamore Horses has also been reported by the Western Australian newspaper Your Local Examiner.[8]
