Introduction
[edit]The Academy Prep Foundation is a private non-profit 501(c)(3) organization from Tampa, Florida.[1] It operates three schools across Central Florida, with one in Tampa, one in St. Petersburg, and one in Lakeland.[2]
History
[edit]The Academy Prep Foundation was founded in 1996 by Joan Fortune and Jeff Fortune with the goal of serving minority teens. The Fortunes noticed a need for a program that satisfies the needs of local minority teens, initially men, who have relatively high dropoutrates.[3] The St. Petersburg location opened in 1997, being boys-only for the first three years of operation, before introducing the first girls into the school in the summer of 2000. The Tampa location first opened in 2003, and the Lakeland location first opened in 2019.[2]
Finances
[edit]As of May 2025, the Foundation makes a total of ~$3,800,000 per year, and is worth ~$44,000,000. The yearly expenses have been gradually climbing from the previous years, being ~$2,620,000 in 2025, as opposed to roughly ~$1,200,000 in 2021.[4]
