257ers (German: pronounced Zwei-Fünf-Siebeners, [ˈt͡svaɪ̯ fʏnf ˈziːbn̩ɐs])[2] is a German Rap duo from Essen. The group consists of Daniel "Shneezin" Schneider and Michael "Mike" Rohleder.

The original three members Mike Rohleder, Daniel Schneider and Kolja Scholz[3] come from the Essen district of Kupferdreh, from whose postal code 45257 the name of the group is derived. Originally, "257" was created in 1997 as a name for a graffiti crew from which the three detached and founded a hip-hop group under the name 257ers in 2005. Initially, the group released exclusively mixtapes available as free downloads. Their first release, Mit Essen spielt man nicht, appeared in 2007.[4]

In April 2008, the mixtape Scheiß auf Rappen was released. It marked the first appearance of the term "Akk!", which the group uses as a battle cry and universal substitute word and which became a recurring element of their lyrics.[5] The mixtape features guest appearances by rappers Starfaze, Jason and Favorite.[6] The group subsequently intensified its collaboration with Favorite.[4] At the end of 2008, the EP Tracksdienichtgutgenugfürdasneuealbumwaren was released.[7] The members of 257ers also participated in the third installment of the hip-hop battle series Feuer über Deutschland.[8] Schneider and Scholz additionally contributed to Schläge für Hip Hop, a release by Favorite and Hollywood Hank.[9] Schneider was also responsible for the mastering of the mixtape, which was released through Selfmade Records.[10]

In April 2009, the 257ers' first album, Hokus Pokus, was released as a free download.[4] Music videos were produced for four songs from the album: "Läckmiamarsh", "Persönlicher Weckruf", "Regenbogen", and "Kein Fick auf Schule", the latter being another collaboration with Favorite.

In April 2010, Schneider released the EP Smegma, his first solo release. The EP was also released as a download and features guest appearances by Scholz, Rohleder and Favorite. Schneider also accompanied Favorite and Kollegah on the Teens for Cash concert tour.

On November 11, 2010, the second album, Zwen, was released. It was produced by Psaiko.Dino, Krizz Dallas, Marvelous, Johnny Illstrument, Voddi, Josen and Delicious. Favorite and Ras Timbo appeared as guest rappers.[11] Music videos were released for the songs "257 ist der Boss" and "Drei rosa Schleifchen".[12] The group also performed the song "Unsere Arme sind schwach" as part of the video series Halt die Fresse by Aggro.TV. In 2011, the group appeared on Favorite's album Christoph Alex.[13] Their collaborative song "Ne Pille" was also released as a music video.

From March 30 to May 5, 2012, 257ers embarked on a joint tour with Favorite. The 22-date tour was held under the title Fahrrad-Tour 2012. During the tour, the hip-hop label Selfmade Records announced that the members of 257ers had signed with the label.[14] The contract had actually been signed in October 2011. The hip-hop group Genetikk subsequently also signed with Selfmade Records. Since 257ers had already completed work on their album, its release was brought forward.[15]

In mid-July, 257ers performed at the music festival Splash! Festival|Splash!. Their third album, HRNSHN, was released on September 7, 2012. The song "Auseinanda" was released as a single and accompanied by a music video. Music videos were also released for "Scheißegal", "Spinat", "Über alle Berge", "Seite an Seite" and "Go Ninja". HRNSHN debuted at number 6 on the German Albums Chart.[16] The album reached number 24 in Austria and number 60 in Switzerland.[17][18] In mid-October 2012, a music video was released for the song "Säbelzahntiger RMX", featuring 257ers alongside rappers BattleBoi Basti, Weekend, 4Tune, Duzoe and Milo.

In addition to their record deal, the trio signed a publishing agreement with media company BMG Germany in October 2012.[19] From October 20 to December 29, 2012, they embarked on a concert tour titled Menschen, Tiere, AKKtraktionen with the duo Genetikk and DCVDNS.[20]

At the end of 2012, the term "Akk!" was among the finalists for the Youth Word of the Year (Jugendwort). In a public vote conducted by the Langenscheidt publishing group, the word received the most votes. However, the jury members were unfamiliar with "Akk!" and attributed this to the term's apparently limited local usage. The jury ultimately selected "YOLO" as the Youth Word of the Year.[21]

From April 13 to April 28, 2013, the trio embarked on another tour, titled Brötchen anfassen ist kein Hygienefiasko, which included performances in fourteen cities.[22]

On September 26, 2014, the fourth album, Boomshakkalakka, was released. It reached number one on the German Albums Chart during its release week, becoming the group's first number-one album. It sold more than 40,000 copies.[23]

In May 2016, it was announced that work on the new album Mikrokosmos had been completed and that it would be released on July 1, 2016. At the same time, it was announced that Scholz would leave the group to focus more on his private life.[24] Schneider and Rohleder were therefore the only members to appear on the album. Mikrokosmos subsequently reached number one on the German Albums Chart. The accompanying live tour began in October 2016 and visited 16 German cities.

On May 27, 2016, "Holland" was released as the first single from Mikrokosmos. The second single, "Holz", followed on July 1, 2016, and was certified platinum in Germany for sales exceeding 400,000 units.

In 2017, 257ers appeared as guest musicians on Andreas Gabalier's MTV Unplugged concert, performing on the song "Hulapalu".

On May 3, 2019, the sixth studio album, Alpaka, was released and reached number 16 on the charts.

On July 25, 2019, the single "Abrakadabra" was released, featuring Scholz as a guest. The seventh studio album of the same name, Abrakadabra, was released on November 1, 2019, reaching number 19 on the charts.

Several singles were released in 2020. The year began with "Alkonüme Hühner", which the group recorded with the hip-hop group Mehnersmoos. This was followed by the song "Mit uns". Another single, "Hops genommen", was released in collaboration.
