The 20th Armoured Brigade "Ipo Skii" (Greek: XX Τεθωρακισμένη Ταξιαρχία «ΥΠΟ ΣΚΙΗ») is the only armoured brigade of the Cypriot National Guard.
History
[edit]The formation has at least existed since the year 1996 due to 26 EMA being formed and becoming part of it,[1] the formation traces its history to the earlier tank battalions like the 23 EMA which fought in the cypriot invasion, however was formed very much later. Today it consists of T-80U MBTs, BMP-3s and potentially Leo-1s.
Emblems
[edit]The emblem depicts a Centaur ready to fire an arrow. The body of the horse symbolizes strength and aggressiveness of armor/cavalry, and the human body symbolizes the soldier who controls the vehicle and directs the weapon.
The motto of the 20th Armored Division is "In The Shade" (Greek: Υπό σκιή, Ypo Skii). [2] The phrase is attributed to the Spartan soldier Dienekes, who on the eve of the Battle of Thermopylae, was told by a native of Trachis that the Persian archers were so numerous that their arrows would block out the sun. Dienekes replied with a laugh, "Good. Then we will fight in the shade."

The brigade also fields an artillery[3], engineer and signals battalion however theres insufficient information regarding their unit names.
