Canción de Juventud (English: Song of Youth) is a 1962 Spanish musical comedy film directed by Luis Lucia.[1] The film marked the cinematic debut of teenage star Rocío Dúrcal, who was discovered by producer Luis Sanz after appearing on a television singing contest.[1] The film also features a tie-in soundtrack album of the same name released through Philips.[2]

Plot

The film centers around two seaside boarding schools located in close proximity: a boys' academy managed by the traditional and strict Don César, and a girls' academy led by a group of forward-thinking, modern nuns. The structural rift between the old-fashioned educational styles and contemporary youth culture leads to a series of comedic misunderstandings. However, the schools find common ground when the nuns convince the headmaster to join them on an outdoor excursion. Along the way, the students from both institutions team up to cooperatively restore a beautiful, abandoned chapel, leading to shared adventures and musical celebrations.[1]

Soundtrack

The music for the film was composed by Augusto Algueró. The soundtrack was commercially distributed across Europe and Latin America as an Extended Play (EP) vinyl record through Philips-Phonogram.[2] Dúrcal performs the majority of the tracklist, establishing her signature mid-century pop vocal style.
