Bacillus aerius is the name proposed in 2006 for a species of aerobic, Gram-positive, motile, rod-shaped, endospore-forming bacterium isolated from a cryogenic tube used to collect an air sample at high altitude. The specific epithet aerius is Latin for "pertaining to the air" or "aerial". The strain designated as the type strain was 24KT (= MTCC 7303T = JCM 13348T).[1]
The name did not meet the requirements for valid publication under the International Code of Nomenclature of Prokaryotes and therefore has no standing in prokaryotic nomenclature. [2]
