Babatunde Hunpe is a Nigerian politician. From May 2019 through May 2023, he served as the Federal Representative representing Badagry constituency in the 9th National Assembly.[3][4][5][6] He was appointed Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development during the Babatunde Fashola administration in 2011.[7] Also in 2015, he was appointed Special Adviser to the Governor on the Environment during the Akinwunmi Ambode administration.[8] In July 2025, Babatunde Hunpe emerged as the Chairman of Badagry Local Government after defeating his closest rival, PDP’s Medemakun Abayomi Noah.[9]
Early life and education
[edit]Hon. Babatunde Hunpe was born in August 1963 in Badagry, Lagos State.Badagry Local Government. Hunpe studied at the University of Lagos and Lagos State University. He holds a bachelor's degree with honours in History and International Relations, master's degrees in History and Diplomacy and International Relations and Strategic Studies. He also holds a professional certificate in Mass Communication.[10]
Public services and political career
[edit]Hon Babatunde began his career journey as Head of Protocol and Principal Assistant Registrar /Admin Secretary at Lagos state University Nigeria.He also served the government of Lagos State as a Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Environment from 2015-2019 and Rural Development from 2011-2015 [10]. During the 2019 general election, he was elected as a member of the Federal House of Representatives for 2019-2023 National Assembly representing Badagry Federal Constituency.[11][12]Babatunde Adande Hunpe Won the chairmanship election held on 12 July 2025 under the platform of All Progressive Congress APC. The announcement wish came from the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission shows that he won with a total of 27,442 votes defeating the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) candidates[13][14]
Other professional Distinctions and memberships
[edit]Babatunde belongs to some prestigious institutes as an active membership upto ten professional bodies like the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, American Association of University Administrators, and the Civilian Institute of Democratic Administration of Ghana.[10]
Legislative/ Community Impacts
[edit]Hon. Babatunde during his tenure in the House of Representatives, was involved in legislative and constituency activities relating to education, infrastructure, and community development in Badagry Federal Constituency. These included efforts concerning the proposed establishment of a Federal Polytechnic in Badagry and matters relating to the Lagos–Badagry Expressway. He also participated in constituency projects, including the commissioning of educational and healthcare facilities, as well as programmes supporting public school pupils and educational development within the constituency.[15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22]
