Squad navboxes styling
[edit]| This section is pinned and will not be automatically archived. |
Hey there! I am in bit of a confusion with squad navboxes styling. When I first created a World Cup squad navbox, I styled on the precedent of previous navboxes of them matching the kit of the team for that particular season. But cricket teams tend to have very frequently changing colors and I feel this inconsistency can be addressed by sticking to two common styling styles, one for ODI WCs and the other of T20Is. Would be grateful for your help :) Cric editor (talk) 04:04, 13 January 2026 (UTC)
- @Cric editor:
- I agree; a common/consistent styling pattern should be used within CWCs and T20WCs.
- I must also add that a navbox should be for navigational purposes and not as a decorative something.. thus, they should only use a bg color representing the team. even if the kit color changes time to time in most cases there's a core color in their kit that doesn't usually change which should be the one used. Although slightly different shades can be used based on the contemporary kits.
- The fg color should only be white or black for readability reasons only and the bordercolor shouldn't be used in my opinion. I have done it and now restored it for the 2024 mT20WC squad boxes; I will do 2026 next. But, a similar pattern should be done for other navboxes as well.
- I'm open to further discussions about this...! Vestrian24Bio 08:45, 13 January 2026 (UTC)
- Agreed! Although I still think that contrasting fg doesn't cause readability issues tho. Thanks for working on this man Cric editor (talk) 09:21, 13 January 2026 (UTC)
- Didn't mean fg color causes readability issues. I don't see the need for any fg color usage other than using black in a light bg and white in a dark bg. Vestrian24Bio 09:30, 13 January 2026 (UTC)
- Got that! My point is just that contrasting colors for text/links are allowed according to MOS:COLORS, so maybe it's just not a stretch. Cric editor (talk) 09:34, 13 January 2026 (UTC)
- @Cric editor: also, if we settle down on colors for each format then we can create a coloring template which would make maintenance easier. Vestrian24Bio 09:34, 15 January 2026 (UTC)
- That will actually be very helpful for the editors who create such templates in the future, seems like a good idea. Cric editor (talk) 13:28, 15 January 2026 (UTC)
- @Cric editor: If you could fill the tables at User:Vestrian24Bio/tmp1 with appropriate hex values; I'll incorporate it into a template. Thanks, Vestrian24Bio 03:55, 21 April 2026 (UTC)
- I have updated the men's table with some changes suggestions for 2-3 teams per WP:MOS and to maintain consistency. Cric editor (talk) 19:04, 4 May 2026 (UTC)

You appear to be engaged in an edit war at Cricket at the 2026 Asian Games – Men's tournament. An edit war occurs when editors who disagree about the content of a page repeatedly revert each other's changes. Please do not revert or undo the edits made by other editors when your changes are reverted. Instead, use the talk page to discuss how the page can represent consensus among the editors involved. Here is some advice on how to do this. If discussions get stuck, you can request a third opinion, ask for help at a relevant noticeboard, or seek dispute resolution.
Edit warring can result in being blocked from editing, especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts within 24 hours on one page. Undoing any other editor's work, in whole or in part, involving the same or different material, is a revert. You can still be blocked for edit warring even if you do not violate the three-revert rule should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. You have removed cited contact from Ramayana: Part 1 Wikipedia article page without giving any explanation. This constitutes as Wikipedia:Vandalism. Also using 2 accounts to so can be considered as Wikipedia:Sockpuppetry. Please engage in edit discussion in article talk page before removing content arbitrarily from Wikipedia articles. Kalpesh Manna 2002 (talk) 16:49, 22 October 2026 (UTC)
- Kalpesh Manna 2002, an accusation of socking needs to be based on solid evidence. Also, that content was not deleted arbitrarily, as far as I can tell, but with a very good reason: WP:TIMESOFINDIA. Drmies (talk) 16:53, 22 October 2026 (UTC)
- I didn't accuse anyone of anything. I merely pointed out the provisions of Wikipedia:Sockpuppetry, which is not part of any investigation procedure. The Times of India has already been used in the article, I only copied that content for the lead from the article body. I have added additional sources for that content also. In the first edit done by the user there were no edit summary, the reliability of the source was only pointed out in the second edit summary done by @Vestrian24Bio. Also these 2 edits has been carried out by different/alternative accounts used by the user. If you want to discuss the reliability of sources and the content it supports please do so in the article talk page under the discussion I have started. Thank you. Kalpesh Manna 2002 (talk) 17:04, 22 October 2026 (UTC)
- Stop that nonsense right now: you said, "Also using 2 accounts to so can be considered as Wikipedia:Sockpuppetry". Now, it's not correct English, but any fool understands what you are accusing the editor of. Drmies (talk) 17:26, 22 October 2026 (UTC)

DCWC closing update
[edit]Three weeks ago, the 2026 Developing Countries WikiContest came to a close! After three months of competition, we have our winners.
OpalYosutebito (submissions) comes in third with 525 points earned from a large series of good articles about pandas.
Vestrian24Bio (submissions), with an immense number of submissions relating to cricket, comes in second with 1040 points. And our runner-up from last year makes their way to the top of the podium:
Simongraham (submissions) takes gold with 1065 points, coming from another round of good articles about African jumping spiders!
The award for the most countries covered goes, once again, to Simongraham (submissions) who submitted articles under 30 flags!
Vestrian24Bio (submissions) tops the chart for the most quality articles (23 good articles). Kisseran (submissions) and OpalYosutebito (submissions) tie for the award for most submissions under a single country; both made 14 submissions related to China. The award for most submissions related to women goes to
GreenLipstickLesbian (submissions) with 12 biographies about women. We also have a tie for the most reviews! Both
Dragonhawk12 (submissions) and Simongraham (submissions) submitted 23 reviews each for the category!
Multiple DCWC records were also broken! Simongraham (submissions) set the new record for the most total points, with 1100.
Vestrian24Bio (submissions) set two inaugural records, earning the contest's first featured and good topics.
GreenLipstickLesbian (submissions) submitted 29 In the news entries, 12 more than the previous record.
Among the participants' contributions were six FAs, five FLs, 132 GAs, and a number of DYKs, ITNs, and reviews of every kind—far more than last year! Regardless of your level of participation, every contestant can be proud to have contributed to a major step in countering the systemic bias on Wikipedia. Every year, millions of readers and editors around the globe use Wikipedia to educate themselves and communicate with others about parts of the world that often receive less attention than they deserve. Thank you for participating in the contest and contributing to this effort. The DCWC will return next year, and we look forward to seeing your contributions again! However, before that...
We need your feedback! Join the conversation on the talk page to discuss your reflections on the contest (even if you didn't participate!) and help us make it better.
If you have any questions, please leave a message on the contest talk page or ask one of the coordinators: Arconning (talk · contribs), Generalissima (talk · contribs), Magentic Manifestations (talk · contribs), sawyer777 (talk · contribs), or TechnoSquirrel69 (talk · contribs). re: your edit on Be Sweet to Me
[edit]I looked through the Manual of Style, and I don't see where it mentions anything about how to properly format a list of citations following a colon.
This was your edit, which reverted how something would normally be formatted using standard American English, where a space should always follow after a colon.
Can you point me to the appropriate section in the MOS? Thank you kindly. ~2026-51099-11 (talk) 06:31, 26 October 2026 (UTC)
- WP:REFSPACE. Vestrian24Bio 2 08:00, 26 October 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for the link, but all I see that might be relevant here is this bit:
Reference tags should immediately follow the text to which the footnote applies, with no intervening space.
- However, in the case of the edits in question, this is for an {{efn}}, which lists multiple references.
- So are you saying that instead of being presented like this:
- {{efn|Attributed to multiple references: [1][2][3]}}
- It should be formatted like this, with no space before a colon?
- {{efn|Attributed to multiple references:[1][2][3]}}
- This violates normal English rules. These citations aren't for the text within the {{efn}} "Attributed to multiple references:" but are for the text in the Wikipedia article that the {{efn}} is in relation to.
- Thoughts? ~2026-51099-11 (talk) 17:59, 26 October 2026 (UTC)
- Also of note, I found this recent discussion, but it doesn't address the specific question that I have here. ~2026-51099-11 (talk) 18:20, 26 October 2026 (UTC)
- Yes, presenting it without an intervening space ("references:[1]") is how I've seen it being done everywhere. What rules does it violate..? Vestrian24Bio 03:02, 27 October 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for the link, but all I see that might be relevant here is this bit:

Weekly highlight
- An experiment launched on September 29 is testing article recommendations for new account holders who also identify as readers. By suggesting articles to read, similar to recommendations in the Wikipedia app for logged-in readers, the experiment aims to encourage new account holders to read and return to the website regularly, with the goal of increasing internal referrals by 1%. See the related Community Wishlist proposal.
- Several Wikimedia services were taken offline last week because of a security vulnerability in PHP. This is because they need to be updated before they are safe to put back online. This is not a problem just for the Wikimedia movement but affects a lot of websites. You can follow updates on Wikitech. Cloud VPS and Toolforge will take longer to bring back online. This is to make sure that applications which run on Cloud VPS or Toolforge are not affected. Tool developers can see updates and more information on the Cloud-announce mailing list.
- Last week we shared that to measure the impact of incorporating some community-requested features on logged-out reader retention, a test for the Image Carousel feature would be pushed to logged-out readers. Due to an issue, we will be restarting the test, but it will be live on October 26, not November 20 as initially announced.
Updates for editors
- A new bot detection system to better identify automated traffic that disguises itself as human visitors, is coming to the Wikimedia wikis. This might cause sudden changes to visitor statistics starting from 26 October, going back to 20 June 2026.
- The Score extension which renders musical notation inside wiki pages, has been temporarily disabled on all wikis due to a security issue. Affected pages will display a notice instead of musical scores, but the underlying code remains intact. No action is needed from editors, and a fix is in progress. A separate announcement will follow when the extension is re-enabled. Read more on Phabricator.
View all 18 community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week. For example, the issue where CodeMirror syntax highlighter appears to have been enabled in error for existing editors has been fixed.
Updates for technical contributors
- All wikis will be read-only for a few minutes on Wednesday, October 28 2026 at 15:00 UTC. This is for the datacenter server switchover backup tests, which happen twice a year. During the switchover, all Wikimedia website traffic is shifted from one primary data center to the backup data center to test availability and prevent service disruption even in emergencies.
Detailed code updates later this week: MediaWiki
Meetings and events
- Scholarship and sponsorship applications for the 2027 Wikimedia Hackathon will close on Friday, October 30th. Submit your application through Pretix before the deadline!

Weekly highlight
- Many Wikimedia tools were taken offline last week because of a security vulnerability in PHP. This affected many websites worldwide. Toolforge and Cloud VPS have been back up since October 22. Many important tools have been gradually restored. Some tools need the respective volunteer maintainers to restart them. Others still need to upgrade to a patched PHP version. Some tools were using older versions of PHP which are not supported by the recent security patches. They will require maintainers to upgrade to a more recent version. This might require additional effort. You can follow the work on Wikitech.
Updates for editors
- A new optional search experiment is running in the Wikipedia Android and iOS apps for Arabic, French, and Japanese Wikipedias. Participating readers can search inside articles and open quoted passages directly in their source articles, no answers or summaries are generated. This is the first of four experiments in Phase 2 of Semantic Search. It began on October 22 and runs for 20 days. Feedback is welcome on the project’s discussion page.
- The Future Audiences team is planning to bring Share Cards to Wikipedia on mobile. This feature gives users the option to share a visually appealing card with friends, based on the article they are reading. The card contains the article’s title, image, opening text, and related attribution, and links back to the article for full reading. Editors are invited to try out this feature by adding
?useformat=mobile&sharecard=1to any article URL from October 29 to November 8. Share any thoughts on the project talk page and report any bugs on Phabricator. - The default renderer for math formulas will change on November 2. After the change, the server sends the formula as MathML, and your browser uses MathJax to show it. This is the last step towards the Mathoid/RESTBase deprecation process, for sustainability and security reasons. You can ask questions or report problems.
- Do you have an idea for a new feature, or a bug that needs fixing? Submit your suggestion for the community wish list by November 8!
