Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to the region of South Asia (India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal), including but not limited to history, politics, ethnicity, and social groups, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Additionally, you must be logged in, have 500 edits, and have an account age of 30 days in order to make edits related to two subtopics: (1) Indian military history, or (2) caste-related topics in South Asia.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Speedy deletion contested: Mark Batzer

[edit]

Hello Sarangem. I am just letting you know that I contested the speedy deletion of Mark Batzer, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The reason given is not a valid speedy deletion criterion. Thank you. BangJan1999 03:39, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

You rapid AfD of many articles is unusual

[edit]

icon Please slow down. You have rapidly made a very large number of AfD nominations. While some of these may be appropriate, for certain your CSD and AfD nominations of Mark Batzer were certainly not. Please check carefully the criteria for notability of different classes of pages, and the requirement to do a proper search. I feel that continued mass AfD nominations is not constructive towards building Wikipedia. Ldm1954 (talk) 13:58, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Your AfD closure

[edit]

Kindly change the closure of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Wuhan Foreign Languages School to speedy keep as withdrawn by nominator. Closing as merge as you did means the discussion found community consensus to merge. FaviFake (talk) 14:09, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I did not know the rules. I changed it. Sarangem (talk) 14:25, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! Please read the deletion policies and guidelines like WP:DELPRO next time. FaviFake (talk) 14:51, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Heya, an editor restored the article that you merged. In theory we should create a new AfD discussion, but I think it's best if you reopen the discussion, since it's recent and there were already a few people in favour of the merge.
If we let the discussion continue, the next closure will be binding and the article cannot be restored as easily. To revert your closure and reopen the discussion, you can just open this revision from before you closed it, and restore it. FaviFake (talk) 15:38, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

CS1 error on Durga Puja

[edit]

Hello, I'm Qwerfjkl (bot). I have automatically detected that this edit performed by you, on the page Durga Puja, may have introduced referencing errors. They are as follows:

  • A generic name error. References show this error when author or editor name parameters use placeholder names, or the name of the newspaper or organisation, instead of the source's actual author or editor name. If no human author is given, the fields should be removed. (Fix | Ask for help). Below are the references causing this error:
    • News, India TV (2015-03-21). "Difference between Vasanta and Sharad Navaratri - India TV". India TV News. Retrieved 2026-09-27. {{cite web}}: |last= has generic name (help)

Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, Qwerfjkl (bot) (talk) 06:55, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
