Diary of engagements

[edit]

I want to echo the FAC comment about "laundry lists". A lot of effort has been poured into this article, but a large part of it is a fairly tedious list of engagements. After she marries, the article becomes a list of she visited there, she met them, visited here, shook hands with, and so on. It is almost WP:INDISCRIMINATE. Why should the reader know, for example, that Catherine went to Belfast in March 2011? Is it an important milestone in her life? Does it help the reader understand Catherine? The article does not say. Attempts to avoid merely listing engagements are also visible, but they seem to consist of delving into detail about a particular project, which I find distracting, e.g. the 5 Big Questions on the Under 5's.

The article does not, in my opinion, benefit from being updated every time she steps out of a limo. Instead, it would benefit from contextualizing and distilling information and from writing about her public role in more general terms, with specific examples serving only to illustrate a point. This is done marvellously at Elizabeth II.

It may even be helpful to split this information into a List of official engagements of Catherine, Princess of Wales article, if that would ease the burden on this article. Surtsicna (talk) 18:54, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

I am not sure whether we need a separate article for her engagements, but I agree that some of the information needs to be trimmed to make this biography relevant in the long term.
@Surtsicna I look forward to further thoughts. Best, MSincccc (talk) 02:10, 19 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
